savisaar

If Estonia had to have a prime minister named Savisaar in the future, I'd take Vilja over Edgar.

Would you?

No I would vote for her, last thing we need is the creation of a royal dynasty ruling Estonia.

So, you're saying you'd choose Edgar instead?

Somehow I can't imagine either of them flying to EU ministerial meetings.

I'd kind of prefer a female peaminister. I'm getting a bit tired of all of these political pissing contests.

No. She might be easier on the eyes, but she hardly spews less bullshit.

And God forbid we are ever actually faced with that choice.

Everyone likes a pretty lady better than her obese husband, don't they?
I'd vote for her if she'd divorce Edgar and stop channelling him.
Vilja Laanaru for PM!

Does she endorse the creation of municipal grocery stores?

Edgar would divorce HER if she didn't.
Don't mistake Mrs. Edgar S for an independently thinking politician. At least not now.

There is something almost queen-like about her. Not on this shot but on her campaign posters.

Hard to believe she started out as Estonia's Fawn Hall, helping Eddie record (if not dispose of) the tapes in the wiretap scandal.

Indeed, Vilja was elected to the Riigikogu as a member of the Independent Royalist Party of Estonia

Are there any independent thinking politicians in either Reformierakond or Keskerakond?

Independent-thinking - possibly, there are a lot of people who stick with Kera in return for favours and don't necessarily agree with Savisaar's policies (unscrupulousness being not necessarily accompanied by insanity). Independent-acting is a different thing.

I wonder who are the think-tanks of the two "people's parties" though? At Reform maybe Lang, Pentus, Michal, and maybe Ligi shouts something inelaborate once in a while? At Kesk.. uhm.. Ain Seppik, maybe Vilja jumps in as well, Enn Eesmaa and maybe Kalle Laanet as well? Because although Ansip and Savisaar are colourful figures I don't see either of them as the "hub of ideas".

With the others it's kind of simpler. I can very well imagine Aaviksoo, Laar, Parts and Veskimägi in a heated debate about Estonian foreign policy behind a glass of whiskey. Also having Nestor, Padar, Kreitzberg and Mikser talking serious politics seems plausible.

But the two major parties kind of seem to lack that sort of an "intellectual elite". Maybe it's just hidden somewhere. Maybe Silver Meikar is the main ideology chef of Reform's politics, who knows.

She's a MILF. Totally.

To you she may be a totally hot, but to us, she is just a plain average Estonian woman.

In regard to Edgar's political roots, I was reading up on the split of the Communist Party of Estonia in 1990, and I ran into the term "Ööpartei", referring to the CPSU platform faction that opposed independence and remained loyal to Moscow. How would "Ööpartei" be best translated into English? And why was it called that?

She's one of the few sympathetic politicians in Keskerakond. I typically think of Edgar as Tony Soprano and, say, Ain Seppik, as Paulie Walnuts.
